An exquisite Cabernet Franc from Château Chizay’s premium Founder’s Reserve collection, made from hand-picked Cabernet Franc grapes harvested in 2018 from our own vineyards in the Mala Hora microzone of Transcarpathia.
In 2022, Cabernet Franc was awarded a Silver Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards, one of the world’s most influential wine competitions, with a score of 92 points out of 100.
This wine is a testament to the highest level of winemaking craftsmanship and the distinctive character of our terroir. Cabernet Franc is rarely bottled as a single-varietal wine and is more commonly used in blends. We chose instead to let this noble grape speak for itself, revealing its complexity and intrigue.
Limited edition: only 1,487 bottles produced.
The wine was aged for 24 months in French oak barriques, followed by a further four years of bottle aging.
Color: Medium-depth violet with ruby highlights.
Aroma: Ripe berries enhanced by notes of black pepper, paprika, chocolate, vanilla, and a subtle hint of smoke.
Taste: Balanced and well-structured, with smooth tannins. Fruity notes intertwine harmoniously with nuances of spice and subtle smoky notes developed during barrel aging.
The wine’s velvety tannins make it excellent enjoyed on its own. It also pairs beautifully with hearty meat dishes such as beef, game, lamb, roasted poultry, or roast pork. For a taste of local tradition, try it with the legendary shovdar — Transcarpathia’s answer to Spanish jamón. It also pairs wonderfully with grilled vegetables and cheeses such as Gouda, Brie, or Camembert.
