Brandy Zakarpattya

The value of the real

The Soul of Wine from Chateau Chizay

A New Chapter of Strong Grape Spirits in Zakarpattia

Over 20 years of experience in viticulture and winemaking, mastery recognized by both consumers and professionals, and a deep love for our craft inspired our team to go further.

We began creating our own brandy and Ukrainian Brandy. After completing certification in 2022, just before the full-scale invasion, we did not stop. In the summer of 2023, we launched a new production facility – for grape spirits and drinks based on them.

Our brandy have already won awards, but most importantly – people love them; they warm the soul.

The 10-year-old brandy “Olbaum” I dedicated to my grandfather.

What Does It Take to Make Brandy of Zakarpattia?

What Is Needed for the Brandies of Zakarpattia?

Selected Grapes from the Finest Micro-Terroirs

Premium Distillation Equipment

Professional Aging in Oak Barrels

Mastery Gained Through Years of Experience

“It all starts with great grapes: growing them, harvesting, turning them into wine, and then distilling.
Next comes long aging in oak. After a minimum of 3 years, grape spirit can be turned into brandy, through a series of processes – from blending to ‘cold rest.’

The longer the aging, the better the drink! Strong grape spirits are a continuation of wine. They carry the character of the terroir where they are created.

Brandy is concentrated wine. It contains the very best the vine can offer. A glass of Zakarpattia brandy is an encounter with the soul of a beautiful land.”

How to Best Enjoy Brandy?

Choosing the Right Glass

Use a classic brandy snifter — the key principle is a wide bowl and a narrow top. This shape allows the aroma to concentrate and gradually unfold.

Serving Temperature

The optimal range is 18–22 °C — this temperature allows the brandy to reveal its subtle aromas. Do not chill it — instead, let the drink “rest” at room temperature.

The Tasting Ritual

Hold the glass in your hand for a moment to let the drink gently warm from your palm. Discover the aroma: first from a distance, then closer to the glass, sensing every note — from fruity to oaky. Take a small sip, hold it in your mouth to feel the texture, sweetness, spiciness, and all the nuances.

Time and Atmosphere

Brandy is best enjoyed slowly, in a calm and relaxed setting — for example, after dinner. It’s a wonderful digestif that perfectly complements a cozy evening.

What to Pair It With?

Great pairings include dark chocolate, nuts, blue cheese, or even fruits like apples and pears. We recommend grapes — after all, they are the “foundation” of brandy. A classic French rule for enjoying brandy is known as the “3 C”: Café, Cognac, Cigar.

The Perfect Accompaniment

This drink is made for pure enjoyment. We believe the best pairing with a glass is a pleasant conversation or unhurried reflection on meaningful things in solitude. After all, the true value of brandy lies not only in its taste, but in the moment — when you can feel harmony with yourself or your surroundings.

“Olbaum” – A Story and Tribute Embodied in Brandy
Olbaum brandy, aged for 10 years, is more than just a drink. It is a story of love and respect passed down through generations.

Hugo Gutman, founder of Chateau Chizay, dedicates this brandy to his grandfather, Shandor Olbaum — the one who taught him love for the land, the grapevine, and hard work.

This Ukrainian brandy is about true values and connection to one’s roots.
