Founder’s Reserve wines are the result of over 30 years of winemaking expertise at Chateau Chizay. The 2018 vintage, considered the best of the decade due to ideal weather conditions, allowed for the creation of exceptional wines with rich aromas and balanced acidity and tannins. The grapes were hand-picked from an 8.6 ha plot of Pinot Noir in the Mala Hora microzone.
The wine was aged for 2 years in barriques, and 50 months of bottle aging added complexity and harmony to its flavor.
This limited release of only 385 individually numbered bottles is signed by Chateau Chizay founder Hugo Gutman, guaranteeing unique quality.
The 2018 Pinot Noir stands out for its refined and elegant character, faithfully reflecting the classic traits of the variety and the unique terroir of Zakarpattia.
The aroma is dominated by cherry, raspberry, and blackcurrant, with delicate spicy and smoky notes. The taste is light, with soft tannins and well-integrated red berry nuances.
This wine pairs wonderfully with duck breast, mushroom dishes, and soft cheeses like Brie or Camembert, as well as their local counterparts. A glass of Pinot Noir is a delicious companion to Transcarpathian-style cuisine such as mushroom stew, potato pancakes with meat or mushroom sauce, roasted sausages, and the famous shovdar.
