Chateau Chizay vineyards recognized among the 50 most beautiful in the world

Following the results of an international competition, the vineyards of Chateau Chizay have become the face of Ukraine in the permanent exhibition of La Cité du Vin in Bordeaux, France, which showcases 50 of the most beautiful vineyard landscapes in the world.

For Ukrainian winemaking, this is an important recognition of the country’s terroir, viticultural culture, and the professional level that Ukraine demonstrates on the international stage.

On December 18, 2025, the Director General of La Cité du Vin, Philippe Massol, and the Director General of Ukrvinprom, Volodymyr Kucherenko, presented the diploma to Hugo Gutman, founder and owner of Chateau Chizay.

“The beauty of our vineyards is my daily inspiration. I consider the Mala Hora vineyard a place of strength, especially knowing how much time and effort have been invested here.

I am convinced that everyone should see this place, where nature and human dedication have come together so harmoniously,” commented Hugo Gutman.

On February 12, 2026, as part of the museum’s 10th anniversary celebrations, a vernissage dedicated to the world’s most picturesque and iconic vineyards was opened at La Cité du Vin.

As Volodymyr Kucherenko noted, the opening of the exhibition “Le tour du monde en 50 régions viticoles” was a special evening in Bordeaux:

“50 of the world’s finest wine-growing landscapes. And among them – Chateau Chizay, Berehove, Ukraine. This image now represents Ukraine in the permanent exhibition of La Cité du Vin.

This is not just a photograph. It is Ukraine’s presence in the global memory of wine. The Foundation for Wine Culture and Civilizations, international partners, wine regions from all over the world — and Ukraine among them.

Today in Bordeaux, they speak about traditions, heritage, and the beauty of the world’s wine regions. And in this dialogue, there is the voice of Ukraine. We are proud that Ukrainian winemaking is звучить on the world stage. This is important. And this is only the beginning.”

The photo representing Ukraine – featuring a graceful wild roe deer perfectly at home in the Mala Hora vineyard – was created by Ukrainian photojournalist Serhii Hudak.
