Gennadiy Gutman: “Even when the vineyards are “asleep” Chateau Chizay winegrowers work”
The founder of the Winery Gennadiy Gutman convened for an online conference the agricultural division of the Company – winegrowers of Chateau Chizay. Winter pruning of grapes starts and, as for all processes in the production of wine from the vine and to the glass, in Chateau Chizay this case is approached carefully. After all, the vineyards of Chateau Chizay are a symbol of Transcarpathia and the greatest value of the Company.
The wine starts in the vineyard, and each procedure with the vine is extremely important for the quality of the future drink. And even the winter period, when the grapes “sleep” is not a time of rest for winegrowers.
Given the requirements of the time, the preparation for the winter pruning of vines began online with the participation of all those responsible for the vineyards of the Company. They are experts from Hungary. Chateau Chizay is advised by György Rovży, an agronomist in Tokaj wine region, and Zoltan Schlezák, Chairman of the Hungarian Sommelier Association, founder and CEO of Hungarian Academy of Gastronomy and Sommelier.
They discussed in detail the schemes of pruning the vine, what are the goals for growers, how to work with each variety and determined the order and timing of work on the sites. Specialists from Hungary will monitor the winter pruning of vines through daily photo and video reports. The leaders of each of the Company’s vineyards are responsible for the process.
Gennadiy Gutman says:
“Our vines are growing and are now 14 years old. We are growing together with them, because we are constantly improving the quality of Chateau Chizay wines and experimenting, creating new products.
We treat grapes as our greatest wealth, as a natural beauty and as an extremely valuable result of human labor. And this work is daily and very painstaking.
An incredible amount of resources and love are invested in our grapes. Each vine is touched by the grower at least 12 times during the season.
We try to do everything that happens in the vineyard as correctly and professionally as possible, so that in the end everyone who tastes Chateau Chizay wine in Ukraine or abroad will feel the highest level of quality and have joy. Therefore, even when the vineyards are “asleep”, the winegrowers of Chateau Chizay are working.”
In total, Chateau Chizay has 272 hectares of vineyards. This is 1 million 88 thousand grape bushes, which corresponds to the population of the region, ie, one vine for each Transcarpathian.
Chateau Chizay vineyards, founded in 2006, are called the most beautiful in Ukraine.
They are located on the best microterrairs in three districts of the region.
The Company grows one and a half dozen of European and local varieties (Chersegi Fueseres, Traminer Pink, Furmint, Muscat Ottonel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and others).
Chateau Chizay makes wines only from its own harvest. So, it is responsible for every drop of wine, in which it invests both work and soul.
