Grand Gold and Gold – Ukrainian wines at Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg. Awards for Chateau Chizay – for Late Harvest and Ice Wine.

From Strasbourg, France, from the world’s best white wine competition – Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg – we have received two prestigious awards for Chateau Chizay. Our special sweet wines, created using a complex technology, have been awarded Gold and Grand Gold medals: Ice Wine and Late Harvest.

The Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg competition was held for the 26th time.

This is the only competition in the world that evaluates only white wines, which are sent from five continents to participate.

The jury includes 70 international experts from 25 countries, who this time judged 651 wine samples from around the world.

This year, 20 countries participated, including major wine-producing nations.

14 countries were awarded at the competition, and it is very pleasant and honorable that Ukraine is among them, and we proudly represented national winemaking at this global event.

🌟 The sweet wine Furmint Late Harvest received the Grand Gold Medal at the Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg – 2024.

To create this late harvest wine, we waited over 5 years for all conditions to align for the unique phenomenon of botrytization.

The Furmint grapes stayed on the vine longer until they developed the noble rot Botrytis cinerea, enriching the wine’s aroma and flavor with notes of citrus, ripe quince, juicy peach, pear, raisins, and honey.

The wine has a wonderful balance of characteristic sweetness and vibrant acidity.

🌟 Ice Wine – sweet wine made from Rhine Riesling grapes – received the Gold Medal.

This unique and highly valuable ice wine is naturally sweet, made from grapes touched by frost. The grapes are harvested very late, with favorable weather conditions, great luck for the viticulturists, and high skill of the winemakers – Ice Wine can only be created when all these factors coincide, which happens no more than once every three years.

First, the grapes dry on the vine, and only after the frosts are they harvested. Thus, the water in the berries freezes, and the juice becomes a concentrate of sugars, acids, and aromatic compounds.

Imagine: each bottle contains about 5 kilograms of grape berries!

It’s impressive that the sweet juice remains very fresh in taste (like smelling honey but tasting lemon juice) – this is why connoisseurs love ice wine.

No wonder these wines belong to our Golden Collection, earning new prestigious awards of the corresponding color each year.

Victoria Agromakova, founder and CEO of the Wine & Spirits Ukraine exhibition, who was invited to the judging panel, commented on the event to Drinks+ magazine:

“The White Wine Competition in Strasbourg is unique! And where else to hold it than in Alsace – one of the world’s best regions for producing incredible white wines! As a jury member, I would like to note that the quality and level of wines at the competition were incredibly high. But I am proud to state – and the results of the competition confirm this – that Ukrainian wines maintain this high level and can already compete with well-known brands. I am confident that the number of awards for our wines in this and other international competitions will continue to grow. We have much to strive for and much to be proud of!”.

The competition takes place under the auspices of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) and belongs to VINOFED, the International Federation of Grand Concours Mondiaux de Vins et Spirits.

We are grateful to the Mondial des Vins Blancs Strasbourg for the highest organizational and professional level. We are happy to have the honor to represent Ukraine at the leading world competition and to win gold awards. We are putting Ukraine on the map of winemaking countries and proving that Ukrainian products are of high quality and refined taste!

Every victory for Ukraine is important now as we await our cherished main Victory 💛💙
