Chateau Chizay Winery represents Ukraine in a study on sustainable development and wine tourism from Hochschule Geisenheim University and WineTourism.com

Winemaking is not just about making wine. Classic winery is a special enterprise. An important part of the work is viticulture, and wine tourism. Therefore, the winery affects the development of the region, its economy, image and nature. Chateau Chizay is the only winery in Ukraine that has participated in a large-scale scientific study on sustainable development and wine tourism. Caring for the environment is an essential part of this concept. Let’s explain why it is interesting and important.

The organizers of the study report:

“Wine tourism has been an important part of the wine industry for decades. This helps to generate income by preserving and developing the cultural heritage of the wine region. Thus, wine tourism can become a key element in the sustainable development of wine regions around the world.

To gather reliable information on this topic, the Hochschule Geisenheim University in November 2021 conducted a global online survey of 1,579 wineries from more than 40 countries.

The results of the survey clearly show that the principles of sustainable development have come to wine industry, as well as to wine tourism, and will undoubtedly play an important role in the future. And the large number of participants reflects the global interest in this topic. ”

Among the main findings of the study is that global winemakers are showing increasing attention to environmental principles and implementing environmentally friendly practices such as energy efficiency, developing a long-term strategy and working with regional companies on environmental and other initiatives.

40% of wineries surveyed said that the environment is the most important pillar of sustainable wine tourism, and caring for nature is an integral part of the strategy of a modern responsible company.

The data of research in the context of countries are interesting. For example, France declares that in the environmental context, biodiversity is most important to them, Austria advocates for regional features, and the United States stand for energy.

By the way, Chateau Chizay is currently studying a project to convert the remnants of the vine after seasonal pruning into eco-fuel. And, of course, sustainable development of Transcarpathia, which has a special nature and a unique historical and cultural profile, is important for the Company.

Thus, the activities of Chateau Chizay are fully in line with current trends in winemaking in the world. The Company pays attention to wine tourism in terms of the development of the whole region and implements environmental practices. Last year, Chateau Chizay joined The Porto Protocol, an initiative that brings together caring for the nature world winemakers. In the spring of 2021, the Letter of Principles of the Porto Protocol was signed by the Company’s founder Gennadiy Gutman.

And every time it’s about love for the environment. It is also felt in the Company’s daily work.
