Both “Troyanda Karpat” Wines Become Ambassadors of Ukraine at La Cité du Vin in the World Wine Capital

The ambassadors of Ukrainian winemaking at La Cité du Vin in France are our “Troyanda Karpat” wines. Yes, two wines! Both wines have been honored to represent Ukrainian wine at the world’s premier wine museum – Chateau Chizay’s legendary white and the new red “Troyanda Carpat” dessert wines, released at the end of 2023.

The Ukrvinprom Corporation has announced the results of the All-Ukrainian wine selection, awarding the status of “Ukrainian Wine Ambassador 2024.”

We are delighted with the success of our Transcarpathian wines, particularly our dessert wines, including the new release, which scored one of the highest ratings – 91.55 points.

The La Cité du Vin Museum is the global center for wine culture. It preserves and promotes the history and culture of viticulture and winemaking, safeguarding and developing this heritage while introducing visitors to the best wines from around the world.

Why is this important for Ukraine and Transcarpathia?

The museum is located in Bordeaux, a region regarded as the world capital of winemaking and wine tourism. The building of “La Cité du Vin” has a unique shape reminiscent of a decanter, with several floors of exhibitions. The ambassador wines are showcased both in the wine cellar, which is dedicated to presenting the finest examples from different countries, and in the rooftop restaurant.

Each year, tens of thousands of tourists from all over the world visit La Cité du Vin to better understand the culture of winemaking, which is an integral part of human culture.

This is the third time the selection of ambassador wines from Ukraine has taken place. This event recognizes the high quality of Ukrainian wines and fosters Ukraine’s involvement in the global winemaking community. It is part of what is known as “wine diplomacy” – promoting a country and its development through wine. This enhances Ukraine’s image as a civilized nation producing exceptional products.

Of course, this success reaffirms the level and potential of high-quality winemaking in Transcarpathia.

Notably, Chateau Chizay wines have won in every selection: in 2022, the white “Troyanda Carpat” and the sparkling brut Carpathian Sekt Chersegi were selected, while in 2023, the sweet wine Furmint Late Harvest earned the honor of representing Ukraine. We continue to restore the glory of our winemaking region.

What makes our winning wines special?

The red “Troyanda Karpat” is a creative experiment by the Chateau Chizay team and a continuation of the story of legendary Transcarpathian wine. The blend includes white “Troyanda Carpat,” Cabernet Sauvignon, and Alibernet, each aged separately in barrels for 24 months.

It has an intense, complex aroma with prominent notes of dark berries, prunes, cherries, and the white “Troyanda” adds hints of dried apricots, eastern spices, and walnuts. This synergy carries through to the taste, where ripe and candied berries are complemented by dried plums and apricots, rounded out by hints of vanilla and spices. This wine has already received Silver medals at the prestigious Mundus Vini and Decanter World Wine Awards.

The white dessert wine “Troyanda Karpat” is made using a recipe from 1959 and is the pride of Chateau Chizay. To revive this famous wine, the company planted Traminer Pink vineyards. Today, this wine is the hallmark of Transcarpathian winemaking and the most awarded wine in Ukraine, having won numerous international accolades.

“Troyanda Karpat” is prized for its luxurious aroma with notes of tea rose, candied fruit, vanilla, and dried fruits, and its rich, harmonious, and recognizable flavor. The wine is unofficially regarded as the perfect gift from Ukraine.

We express our gratitude to the Ukrvinprom Corporation and its leader, Volodymyr Kucherenko, for their initiative and the realization of this project, and for their efforts to promote Ukraine and its finest products on the international stage.
